One Last Ride On The Road To GTA VI ๐ 98 Days to launch
Anger Often Has Another Story Behind It
Johnny confronts Trevor; “You been with my girl again, Trevor?”. Normally, Trevor would probably relish the confrontation but he’s distracted. His thoughts are elsewhere. Then Johnny keeps pushing.
The important thing is that Trevor’s anger isn’t really about Johnny. Something much bigger has just been awakened inside him.
Sometimes the thing that finally makes someone explode isn’t the thing that caused the anger. It’s everything they’ve been carrying beforehand.
“Anger is often a secondary emotion.”
This scene is the second half of Trevor’s introduction. The first scene shows us Trevor as chaotic, sexually reckless and apparently completely consumed by drugs and violence.
Then Michael’s voice comes through the television and suddenlyโฆ Trevor changes. He’s distracted. He’s thinking. He’s emotionally somewhere else. Johnny walks in at exactly the wrong moment.
That’s fantastic character construction because Rockstar doesn’t immediately tell us why Michael matters to Trevor. They let us see the reaction first.
There’s an interesting parallel with Michael. Michael has spent years trying to bury his past. Trevor has spent years apparently living inside his past. Michael moved on. Trevor didn’t. So when Trevor hears Michael’s voice, it’s almost as though the past has suddenly become real again.
Johnny thinks he’s confronting Trevor over his girlfriend. Trevor’s mind is already somewhere else entirely.
Sometimes the person standing in front of you isn’t the person you’re really angry with. They’re just the one who happened to be there when everything else came boiling over.
It’s the moment when two stories collide: Johnny thinks this is about betrayal, while Trevor has just discovered that the biggest betrayal of his life may have been waiting for him on a television screen.
With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest games ever made. Over the days leading up to the launch of GTA VI, I’m returning to Los Santos for one last ride through the narrative.
In this new collection I’m analysing the story in the comments to tell you what I think is going on. Disagree with what I say? Get in there! My challenge is to get the whole game covered by GTAVI launch.

Who hasn’t snapped at someone because they were already angry about something completely different eh?!
