One Last Ride On The Road To GTA VI đź“… 97 Days to launch
Anger Can Hide Pain
Trevor is clearly out of control but then, almost unexpectedly, he says; “I just saw a fucking ghost and I gotta hear your crap.”
That’s the key to the whole scene. Johnny thinks this confrontation is about his girlfriend. Trevor’s head is somewhere else entirely.
He’s just had the shock of discovering that Michael—the man he believed was dead—is alive. Everything else is suddenly secondary.
Trevor’s aggression isn’t making him forget his pain. It’s covering it up.
“Anger is often grief wearing a different mask.”
The line; “I just saw a fucking ghost.”, is the moment Trevor’s entire character suddenly makes more sense. He isn’t simply an unhinged man looking for an excuse to hurt somebody. He’s a man who has just had his entire understanding of his past ripped apart.
For years, Michael has been dead in Trevor’s mind. Then suddenly his voice comes through a television. Imagine the psychological impact of that. The person you believed betrayed you, abandoned you and died… is alive. Trevor has no idea why.
So Johnny walks into the middle of that emotional earthquake and starts demanding answers about his girlfriend. Trevor’s response is completely disproportionate because Johnny isn’t really the thing occupying Trevor’s mind anymore. Sometimes the person taking your anger isn’t the person who caused your pain. They’re simply the person standing closest when the pain finally erupts.
This is where Trevor’s story becomes much more interesting. Michael responds to pain by trying to suppress it. Trevor responds by exploding outward. Two men dealing with the same past in completely opposite ways.
That contrast becomes enormously important as the GTA V story develops.
With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest games ever made. Over the days leading up to the launch of GTA VI, I’m returning to Los Santos for one last ride through the narrative.
In this new collection I’m analysing the story in the comments to tell you what I think is going on. Disagree with what I say? Get in there! My challenge is to get the whole game covered by GTAVI launch.

Well… Anger is a whole lot easier to express than hurt. Is it not?
