Success Isn’t the Same as Happiness.
Franklin sees Michael’s house and thinks; “You’ve made it.”
Michael sees the same house and thinks; “Look what it cost me.”
That’s the genius of the scene. Franklin admires the destination. Michael remembers the journey.
Then comes one of the most honest lines in GTA V: “You work hard… screw over everybody that you love… hurt, rob, kill… and maybe… just maybe… if you’re lucky… you become a three-bit gangster.”
Michael isn’t glorifying the criminal life. He’s exposing it. He’s saying; “Don’t mistake survival for success.”
Then Rockstar delivers the punchline; “Go to college… then you’re gonna rip people off and get paid for it. It’s called capitalism.”
Whether you agree with him or not isn’t really the point. It’s classic Michael—deeply cynical, using humour to mask regret.

This conversation feels like the moment the relationship between Michael and Franklin truly begins. Up until now, Michael has mostly been using Franklin. Here, he starts mentoring him.
And notice something subtle: Michael never tells Franklin to become a better criminal. He tells him to get out altogether. That’s incredibly revealing. Michael has spent years chasing what Franklin still thinks he wants, and he’s effectively saying, “Trust me, it isn’t worth it.”
Whether his cynical joke about capitalism lands with a viewer or not, the emotional truth beneath it is powerful. Michael isn’t preaching from a pedestal—he’s confessing from experience.
This isn’t a lecture. It’s a confession.
That’s what gives the scene its lasting impact. It isn’t Rockstar telling the player that crime doesn’t pay. It’s a man who has everything he thought he wanted quietly admitting that, in all the ways that mattered, it cost him far more than he ever expected.
With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest games ever made. GTA V was one of the very first games I created content for, and while I had plenty of enthusiasm back then, I was still learning the art of recording, editing and storytelling. I won’t deny, I still have a long way to go though!
So, over the days leading up to the launch of GTA VI, I’m returning to Los Santos for Grand Theft Auto V – Series 2. Rather than simply re-uploading old footage, I’m creating a brand-new collection of fast-paced shorts that focus on the funniest moments, biggest fails, epic stunts and unforgettable chaos. These clips are shorter, sharper and edited to keep the action flowing from start to finish. Think of it as a celebration of GTA V, a countdown to GTA VI, and a chance to compare where Gramepa started with where the channel is today. The challenge is to get the whole game covered by GTAVI launch.
