Sometimes It’s Best to Walk Away _ GTA Analysis Beyond The Mission

One Last Ride On The Road To GTA VI ๐Ÿ“… 90 Days to launch

Sometimes Opportunity Looks Like Trouble

Trevor walks into the bar expecting a straightforward business meeting. Instead, he sees his prospective employer’s son completely off of his head. His first reaction? Leave.

That’s significant. Trevor, of all people, looks at this situation and thinks; “Nope. I’m out.”. Then the interpreter catches him and explains the stakes.

If Trevor walks away, the crime boss may kill him. Suddenly, the disastrous meeting becomes a business opportunity. Trevor doesn’t run from the danger. He reassesses it and that’s actually one of his greatest strengths.

“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” โ€” Albert Einstein

The deeper Trevor angle

I think this scene tells us something important about Trevor’s business instincts. He’s reckless personallyโ€ฆ but he’s surprisingly perceptive professionally.

He immediately recognises that the situation is unstable. The prospective employer is incapacitated. The interpreter is nervous. There’s obviously a serious power imbalance and Trevor initially wants nothing to do with it, but once he understands the circumstances, he sees something else; an opportunity to build another business relationship.

That’s consistent with what we’ve already seen. Trevor isn’t just randomly violent. He’s entrepreneurial. He sees markets. He sees opportunities. He sees territory. He sees weaknesses and then he acts.

We’ve just watched Trevor create Trevor Phillips Industries almost entirely out of revenge, now he’s being handed another potential business opportunity. He’s gradually building an empire almost by accident.

Michael is trying desperately to escape his criminal past. Trevor is doing the exact opposite. He’s turning his criminal past into a business plan.

Michael sees crime as something he needs to escape. Trevor sees it as something he can build on. That’s becoming one of the clearest differences between these two men and it’s going to make their eventual reunion even more explosive.

With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest games ever made. Over the days leading up to the launch of GTA VI, I’m returning to Los Santos for one last ride through the narrative.

In this new collection I’m analysing the story in the comments to tell you what I think is going on. Disagree with what I say? Get in there! My challenge is to get the whole game covered by GTAVI launch.
