Cheap Tools Are Expensive – Gramepa’s Hack #002

Here’s a life lesson that’s saved me a lot of swearing… and a lot of time. When I was younger, I’d buy those bargain tool kits, the cheapest drill bits and the no-name power tools.

“What’s the point in paying more?” I thought.

You know the ones…

Fifty-seven screwdrivers.

Thirty-seven Allen keys.

A tape measure that lied.

Cost next to nothing.

Then the screwdriver bent. The Allen key snapped. The spanner rounded off the bolt head and turned a five-minute job into an hour of creative vocabulary… followed by a trip to someone with better tools to rescue me.

Eventually I realised something. You don’t need twenty rubbish screwdrivers. You need one really good one.

It’ll last longer. Do a better job, and it’ll probably outlive you.

Turns out this applies to a lot of things in life.

Sometimes buying cheap means paying twice.
