One Last Ride On The Road To GTA VI đź“… 109 Days to launch
You Can’t Keep Adding Without Taking Away
The developer says; “We’re maxed”. Then follows it with; “If anything we have to strip features…”. It’s a simple truth that applies far beyond software. Everything has limits; time, money, people, attention… When we keep adding more without removing anything, eventually something gives.
Rockstar uses a software project to remind us of a universal lesson: Progress isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about deciding what matters enough to keep.
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” — Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry
The developer isn’t necessarily complaining because they’re lazy. They’re frustrated because they’re being asked to achieve three contradictory goals:
Add more features.
Finish sooner.
Sell another major update later.
Those pressures don’t just exist in software, they exist in almost every creative industry. Whether it’s games, films, books or even everyday work, people often want more output, higher quality and less time, all at once.
Rockstar exaggerates it for comedy, but the underlying message is surprisingly serious: Every project is a series of trade-offs. The moment you pretend there are no trade-offs, you’re setting everyone up to fail.
Rockstar wasn’t just parodying Silicon Valley, they were poking fun at a truth that exists in workplaces everywhere.
With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest games ever made. Over the days leading up to the launch of GTA VI, I’m returning to Los Santos for “Grand Theft Auto V – Series 2”.
I’m creating a brand-new collection of shorts and then analysing the narrative in the comments to tell you what I think is going on. Disagree with what I say? Get in there! My challenge is to get the whole game covered by GTAVI launch.

Have you ever worked on a project where everyone wanted more, but no one wanted to give you more time? It didn’t change for Gramepa until he started working for himself. That boss was a total wan… though…
