OGAI began as a simple idea: if artificial intelligence is going to become part of the creative process, why not give that relationship a face?
Rather than presenting AI as an invisible tool working somewhere behind the screen, OGAI is our visual representation of the creative partnership between Gramepa and the AI helping to create, develop and experiment with the channel.
His first incarnation is Workshop Unit 001 — a deliberately retro, slightly battered little machine built around curiosity, creativity, gaming and a healthy dependence on coffee.

But OGAI isn’t intended to remain exactly as he is.
The experiment
Every time we create a new version of OGAI, he will undergo a small evolutionary change.
It might be a new component, an improvement to an existing system, a change to his visual processing, a new capability, or simply something that reflects what we’ve been doing together.
The changes will be deliberately subtle.
There won’t be a dramatic announcement every time something changes. OGAI will simply start appearing in the work — in images, videos, clips and other Gramepa projects — gradually becoming a little more capable as time goes by.
The idea is that eventually someone might look back at the earliest version and a much later version and realise just how far he’s travelled.
Keeping the record
Alongside each incarnation, we’re creating a technical evolution record.
These documents treat OGAI’s development as though he were a genuine experimental machine being documented in a workshop. They record his hardware, software, capabilities, personality characteristics, quirks and the changes made during each evolutionary step.
They’re deliberately technical, but they’re not meant to be taken too seriously.
After all, this is a robot powered by curiosity, coffee and an unhealthy obsession with retro technology.
Why are we doing it?
There isn’t a grand scientific objective.
OGAI is simply a way of making something invisible visible.
Every image, video, idea, experiment and bit of creative work produced with AI represents some form of collaboration between human imagination and artificial intelligence. OGAI gives that collaboration a character.
Gramepa supplies the ideas, experience, curiosity and questionable decisions.
OGAI helps turn them into something.
And somewhere along the way, we’ll see what happens when the two keep working together.
For now, Workshop Unit 001 is active.
The experiment has begun.
And we’re not entirely sure where it’s going yet.
